WHAT: Press call to discuss the findings of an investigation exposing unreported deaths caused by the FDA-approved medical device, Essure, as well as legal complaints alleging illegal kick-backs from the manufacturer to doctors.
Fitzpatrick has been the leading voice in Congress calling for removal of Essure from the market – introducing the E-Free Act in November of 2015. The device is under review by the FDA that will announce its findings later this month.
Essure is a permanent sterilization device that has harmed more than 25,000 women who have reported symptoms including extreme pelvic and abdominal pain, migraines, loss of teeth and hair, and the coil cutting into the uterus and other organs in the abdominal cavity.
